“Smile and the world smiles with you”
Does it feel extraordinary when individuals smile at you? Does it make you need to smile back? What might it be a situation that you were not, at this point ready to smile?
How would that impact you and the people you interact with in your professional and personal life?
Few months ago I had lunch with a remarkable man, John and I have been friends for the last 5 years and as he shared his story of the past year, I was in awe of how his human spirit and inner strength which helped him survive a very difficult experience. John is unquestionably a brilliant illustration of an individual living achievement – from the back to front.
This previous year has been the most challenging for my companion. He has a threatening illness and nearly kicked the bucket on the specialist’s table. On top of that he awoke with one side of his face paralyzed. Presently that would be the most obliterating to hear for the vast majority; however it’s much more so for John in light of the fact that this make his living as a sales and marketing professional who values interaction with customer as a main criteria for his success.
What touched me so deeply was how troubling it was for John is unable to smile anymore .I could sense it was a great loss for him. Thank goodness that with continued therapy his paralysis will go away and he will be able to smile again.
A smile seems be such a simple thing and yet it wasn’t until I talked with John that I realized how important it is , and just how much I had taken it for granted.
A smile is an expression of you from your heart .It’s a way of instantly connecting with people and expressing joy, warmth and caring .It’s a gift you give without thinking. Imagine having that gift taken away from you. Envision not having the option ofnot being able to smile at your child, spouse, parent, client, colleagues or friend. What would that be like for you? How important is your smile to you now?
John’s smile was taken away by outside circumstances .You have the ability to smile at will .Yet, often do you withhold it because you’re walking around with frown on your face , glaring at people or just not seeing people , because you’re so stressed and busy? How does not smiling affect your relations at work and in life?
Your smile IS important .When you recognize that it’s more than just a simple smile, when you give it away freely because you can , it will inspire both you and the people you’re smiling at .
Practice living success… from the inside out every day by appreciating the importance of a smile .With every smile you freely give , may it take people like John one smile closer to regaining his own life.
Remember: Smile and the world smiles with you .What simpler or honest gift is there to be blessed with?
